Polymarket User Protections: What the September Announcement Establishes
A dated analysis of Polymarket’s September 30 announcement: separate deposit limits, self-exclusion, funding controls and evidence of outcomes.

Reading the September announcement
Polymarket announced changes to its user-protection programme on September 30, 2026. This analysis uses the announcement checked on October 2. It is a dated examination of that statement, rather than a claim that a new announcement was made on this article’s publication date.
The company described voluntary exclusion periods of 30 days, one year or lifetime. It said US users could set daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits across funding methods, with lower limits applying immediately and increases or removal subject to a cooling-off period. These are attributed product statements, not independent tests of the controls.
The announcement also described a Trust & Safety information centre and resources provided with Birches Health. It did not provide an independently evaluated outcome study showing how these measures change user behaviour. An announced feature, a tested implementation and demonstrated effectiveness are different evidence categories.
Three controls that answer different questions
A deposit limit concerns money entering an account. A limit on losses would concern the result of activity. A time limit would concern duration. Readers should identify which quantity a control actually restricts before treating one label as a substitute for another. That distinction applies to comparing product terms; it does not establish which controls are available in any specific account.
Consider a hypothetical $100 weekly deposit cap. The number alone does not tell a reader whether the week is a calendar period or a rolling window, which time zone determines a reset, or how a pending payment is treated. Those details need the applicable product terms. They cannot be inferred from the word “weekly”.
A practical evidence checklist
- Identify the exact product and applicable account jurisdiction.
- Read the scope of the control: deposits, activity, time or another defined quantity.
- Record when a lower limit begins and the stated delay for an increase.
- Check how exclusion is requested, confirmed and applied to the account.
- Keep the dated terms and the confirmation rather than relying on a promotional headline.
None of this analysis establishes nationwide US availability, the legal treatment of a particular contract, or a guarantee that a protection prevents harm. It explains how to read the September statement and what further evidence would be needed. Our responsible gambling page provides general support information; our licence and entity guide explains why the product and its operator must be identified separately.
