A slot can advertise Megaways, cascading symbols and free spins on the same screen. These labels describe different parts of the game. Separating them makes a product comparison more useful than treating every animation as another chance purchased at the spin button.
Megaways changes the reel arrangement
A May 22, 2019 joint supplier announcement describes Megaways as a random reel modifier: the number of symbols across the reels can change from spin to spin. The record concerns Scientific Games and Big Time Gaming's licensing relationship. It supplies a definition and historical business context, rather than evidence that every game using the mechanic has identical rules.
Big Time Gaming's Bonanza page, checked October 26, 2026, describes potential for up to 117,649 ways to win. The wording is a maximum product feature. It does not say that every spin reaches that count or that a spin has 117,649 equally likely winning results.
Cascades describe what follows a winning combination
The Evolution Bonanza description explains its Dual Reactions feature separately. Winning symbols disappear after payout and new symbols enter. The page describes symbols arriving from above and from the right, including a horizontal reel. Those are the reviewed mechanics of this named product, rather than instructions for every Megaways release.
A useful reading sequence is therefore: first identify the initial reel arrangement, then how wins are evaluated, then what replaces symbols after a win. Finally, establish when the paid round ends. A visually busy sequence can contain several evaluated arrangements without requiring the player to press Spin again. The game's own rules should resolve how those stages are counted and paid.
Free spins add another rule set
Evolution's published Bonanza example describes four GOLD scatter symbols triggering 12 free spins, with additional scatters adding spins. During that feature, its win multiplier starts at one and increases with reactions. This explains why the base-game reel mechanic and the bonus-round multiplier should occupy separate lines in a comparison.
Ask whether a multiplier persists between reactions, between free spins or only within one arrangement. Do not transfer a rule from another title because both carry the Megaways name. Likewise, an optional feature purchase, where offered, needs its own price and local availability check. Evolution warns that bonus-buy and jackpot features may be unavailable in some jurisdictions.
Keep ways, probability and cost distinct
A ways count alone is insufficient to calculate a win probability. You would also need the symbol distribution and the complete winning rules. It likewise cannot establish how much a player will recover from a particular session. Comparing a large ways number with a smaller fixed-line number does not, on its own, identify the better-value game.
