Casino jackpots: opt-in contributions, promotional prizes and in-game awards
Compare three DraftKings jackpot models, calculate an additional per-round contribution and distinguish an operator overlay from a game’s own prize.

A jackpot icon does not tell you whether entering costs extra. An online casino can show a player-funded prize, an operator promotion and a game's built-in jackpot near one another. Comparing them starts with the participation rule and the total amount debited per round, rather than the largest displayed prize.
Three documented models
DraftKings' jackpot guide, checked October 26, 2026, separates three categories. Player Contributed Jackpots require opt-in and display the contribution amount. Its Online Promotional Jackpots do not require opt-in, but the player must meet the displayed minimum wager on an eligible game. In-Game Provider Jackpots form part of the game's mechanics without a separate opt-in step.
These are that operator's published categories, not a universal naming standard. A game can have its own prize structure while the casino offers a separate jackpot opportunity around it. Keep the game name and the particular jackpot name together when recording the conditions.
Compare the full debit
DraftKings says its jackpot menu displays the additional amount per wager and updates as players opt in or out. Check that amount before using a repeat-spin control. If several player-contributed jackpots are selected, inspect the total rather than looking only at one contribution.
For illustration, suppose a hypothetical $1 base-game stake has an optional $0.10 contribution. The total debit would be $1.10 per round. Over 100 rounds at unchanged settings, the contribution component would total $10, separate from $100 in base stakes. These figures are invented for arithmetic and are not a current DraftKings price or a suggestion to complete 100 rounds.
A budget comparison should use the full $1.10 in that example. Calling the game a $1 spin would leave out part of the amount committed. The extra cost also does not, by itself, provide enough information to value the jackpot opportunity: the prize rules and probabilities remain necessary.
Eligibility and prize size are separate
For a promotional jackpot, establish which games qualify and the minimum shown in the relevant menu. For an in-game award, inspect the game's own paytable and triggering conditions. The absence of an opt-in button should not be taken to mean that every wager at every stake qualifies for every prize.
BetMGM's September 1, 2026 jackpot guide supplies another useful distinction: a fixed prize and a progressive prize are different structures. Its FAQ says maximum stakes are not always required for jackpot eligibility and a progressive award is not always larger than a fixed one. Those statements support checking each game's conditions, rather than adopting a maximum-bet rule.
Make the comparison usable
Record the base stake, optional contribution, qualifying minimum, jackpot name and participation setting before choosing a game. Compare the rules available for your account and jurisdiction; a general operator guide does not certify every reader's access. This is a document-based product comparison, without personal play tests, prize-value estimates or a claim that adding jackpots improves a player's expected result.
